Sickies.

I've been sick since Monday afternoon, and it blows.

I was sitting at my desk, minding my own business, Monday morning. I had made lunch plans with a friend for 12:30, like we normally do. Around 11:45, it hit me...

I never get a fever, but the chills, then the sweats, the aches and the burning hit me. I canceled lunch plans, saying I was too busy to go, and ate at my desk. I kept asking my cube mate if it was hot in our office or just me (we have very irregular heat in our 50 year old building). Then I realized that the headache I'd had since the night before was an indicator that I was really getting sick. The migraine I had called in sick with 2 weeks before was also probably an indication that I was coming down with something. I was literally counting down the minutes that made up the 6 hours until I got home. Once I got to 2, I knew I could not stay any longer and left.

I stopped at Target to buy a thermometer and cold medicine and barely made it down the aisle. When I got home, I collapsed on the couch in tears. I can't tell you another time that I felt this completely sick.

The bed was my entire existance for the next two days. Tuesday.. Wednesday.. blurred together. The guilt of calling in to work probably just made things worse (and checking my piling up email from home didn't help). Thursday, when I could still not get out of bed, I had to find a way to drag myself to the doctor. Long story short(er), I've got strep, sinus pressure, a doozy of the flu, an infection, and am on 4 different medications (and swigs of cough syrup), and a doctor's note putting me out of work until Monday.

Here are the 3 biggest bummers of my week of being sick:

1) I'm a huge Fraggle Rock fan since I was all of 2 years old, and I missed Karen Prell and Red Fraggle at Free Comic Book Day (it's been my dream to see any Fraggle in person since I was running around the house singing the songs in my underwear 23 years ago.. no, not recently you weirdo)
Epic photos here and here.

2) Photographing the Saddleback College Ladies' Softball game tonight (which also cost me $35 on the rented lens I wasn't well enough to pick up). I'm trying to get my feet wet in shooting sports photography and this was totally exciting - of course I come down with the flu. (Blog post will come soon on my business website here.)

3) Shooting a wedding tomorrow with my awesome friend Kim. Kim is my constant go-to 2nd shooter along with my other good friend Justin. I invite them to all my weddings I shoot as I love their style and it consistently compliments mine. She shot a wedding with me a month ago and it was amazing. I was finally able to repay the favor, and now I can't stand. Nice, huh? She's also an amazing concert photog... we are similar in that we shoot weddings and portraits to make the money, but she shoots concerts and I want to shoot sports because it's what we *love*. :-)

Here's one of my favorite photos she's taken.. Owl City!

So, long story short, being sick sucks. Just one weekend of being out of commission did all this to me - let alone all the cleaning and laundry to be done at home.. and oh, I am just dreading my inbox when I go to work on Monday!

Well, the plus side to being in bed is how obsessed my cats have been over me (well, three out of four). Elphie has been next to me constantly, Woody follows me around the house, and is always laying on top of me, Remmy is always lying next to me, and Indy stays upstairs and patrols the house. Kitty loving did my body good as it healed.. so thankful for that! :-) And being able to catch up on my soaps. Just saying.

Coming up soon on the business blog I'll have those Saddleback College photos along with some headshots I took of my mom-in-law last weekend. Until then, I've got a CD Recommendation for you: Deas Veil.
Deas Veil is an amazing band that I saw open for Copeland a month or so ago. You should definitely check them out! They have a great sound (think Sleeping at Last/Eisley/Ruth/mellow Relient K (yes there is such a thing)/Owl City). Great yet unique. Definitely worth a listening to!
